Thank You for Making Discover Chabot Unforgettable #PowerOfUs |
|
|
On August 6, Chabot College welcomed nearly 300 new students and their families to Discover Chabot - a vibrant, community-driven event. The day featured a warm welcome from leadership, an inspiring student panel, a lively Resource Fair with music from DJ Kai the MC, engaging workshops for families, on-the-spot counseling, and guided tours that introduced students to their new campus. From the Welcome Center to academic departments, every corner of Chabot was filled with energy, encouragement, and a shared commitment to student success - making this a powerful and promising start to the new semester.

MESA, TRIO Talent Search, and Hayward Promise Neighborhoods: July Workshop Recap |
|
|
Chabot Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA), TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS), and Hayward Promise Neighborhoods (HPN) teamed up to provide incoming target students with workshops to help them prepare for a successful start to the fall semester.
This summer, 39 students participated in a College 101 workshop and campus tours led by MESA students. The Welcome Center helped students get their IDs, and students came away talking about feeling less stressed and ready to start fall semester.
Also, 36 new incoming STEM majors and continuing MESA students joined: a success visioning activity, mapping out their semester; mentoring from an amazing team of STEM students, who also facilitated an engineering design challenge to see who could keep a parachute floating the longest; tours of the STEM Center; and graphing calculator check-outs for the semester.

| In Memory of Raymond Orozco - Forever a Gladiator |
Courtesy of: Safiyyah Forbes and Matthew Lee |
With deep sadness, the Executive Team and Chabot Athletics share news of the passing of former Chabot College student-athlete, Raymond Orozco.
Ray was a proud San Lorenzo High School graduate and a valued member of the Chabot Football program during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, playing both running back and wide receiver. Though modest in stature, Ray was incredibly strong, determined, and respected by teammates and coaches alike. His quiet strength and relentless energy - both on the field and in the weight room - left a lasting impact. More than an athlete, Ray was known for his big heart, humility, and unwavering support of others. He celebrated his teammates' wins as if they were his own, bringing positivity and light into every space he entered. Since his passing, many of his former teammates have shared memories and messages that speak to the deep love and respect they had for him. Their reflections remind us of the powerful bonds formed through sports and the enduring sense of family we strive to foster at Chabot. Ray was only 22, with a full life ahead. His loss is a profound tragedy, and our hearts are with his family, loved ones, and all who knew and cared for him.
